WELCOME to HENSHAW BARN - a beautiful rustic building deep in the heart of Hadrians Wall country.

During its agricultural life the barn provided storage space for hay and welcome shelter for cattle, now it is a much loved family home for Pauline and John and their two setters.

The focus throughout the barn conversion has been to remain true to the strength and simplicity of the building. Original A-frame beams have been preserved, and french oak beams added to the ground floor. Beautiful oak doors add warmth to the exposed stone, whilst a huge wood burning stove is an additional enhancement. Furniture is predominantly country pine and oak, complemented by opulent fabrics, and squashy sofas smothered in cushions.

Modern amenities matter:- The marriage of the old with the new arises with the installation throughout of super efficient under floor heating; fabulous power showers; ample hot water; wonderfully comfortable beds; snuggly duvets and quality linen; luscious toiletries; and the  luxury of fluffy towels and cosy bathrobes.

As an added enticement chef John provides fresh, locally sourced, seasonal food.. wholesome and substantial breakfasts, and very delicious evening meals....designed to excite the eye and please the palate.

Henshaw Barn is within walking distance of all the major heritage attractions, including the Roman forts of Housesteads and Vindolanda. Annual excavations continue to unearth precious and often priceless artefacts, all of which can be seen in the museums dotted along the length of the Wall.

The picturesque market towns of Hexham and Corbridge lie 12 miles along the Tyne Valley, and are home to delights such as Hexham Abbey, traditional farmers markets and a host of unique independent shops. Great historic houses and castles pepper the region, with beautiful beaches, wild stretches of coast and our magnificent National Park, all within easy reach.

Fanstastic - Defintiely worth a visit

SJP_NZLdn, London, United Kingdom
We stayed at Henshaw Barn for two nights and it would have been wonderful to stay longer. The bedrooms and the whole B&B is beautifully furnished. Both bedrooms have modern en suite bathrooms and there is a wonderful little sitting room upstairs as well. The main sitting room /dining room for guests is also comfortable, elegant and beautifully decorated. Both Pauline and John are wonderful hosts and the food is outstanding. Do make sure you have dinner there at least one night of your stay. We will definitely be back.

Ģreat hosts who made us feel very welcome. Cosy, comfortable room with very spacious bathroom. Everything immaculately clean and with the little touches fhat give you the feeling to be pampered. Excellent breakfast and evening meal cooked by John. It is amazing which range of different meals he offers for a handful of guests only and all of them sooo delicious. We can highly recommend to stay in Henshaw Barn!

Henshaw Barn replied: It was so nice of you to post a review within a few days of leaving us - especially as you were still on your travels - and very newly married! But it was lovely to learn how much you enjoyed your brief stay at Henshaw Barn - one of the highlights being John's cooking......our thanks to you both, not only for your very kind words but also for your recommendations. And were you to return to Northumberland at some point, then it would be a great pleasure to see you again. Wishing you a long and happy life together....All the very best to you both....Pauline and John.

Luxury Stay

Jim B, Sydney, Australia
My wife and I were on a driving holiday around the UK, and in my trip planning, I came across this delightful B&B on TripAdvisor. We were thoroughly delighted with the stay. Pauline and John were extremely hospitable hosts. John's breakfasts and evening dinner were top restaurant quality. (John even prepared a pate for us as a special treat for our evening meal) The room was luxurious and the bathroom huge by English standards, and well provisioned with all bathroom needs. We only stayed two nights but we wish it was longer. Our best wishes got to Pauline and John Jim and Dianne

Henshaw Barn replied: It was such a pleasure to hear from you (apropos our ongoing email communication prior to your visit......which was eventually followed by your subsequent stay) and we are so very pleased that you enjoyed your altogether brief time with us. And it was so very lovely to finally meet you (even though I was hanging out the washing at the time!)...... 'hands across the miles' so to speak- but such a pity that your visit was so shortlived.....! But it was so very kind of you, on your return home (and so very generous) to go that 'extra mile' and post such a great review.Big thanks for your very positive comments, and for your recommendations.......... And were you ever to find yourselves back in this very lovely part of the world, then it would be so lovely to see you again. Our warmest wishes, Pauline and John.

Hadrian's Wall Holiday

Colin W, Vancouver, Canada
Henshaw Barn was our stay for 1 night as we walked the Hadrian's Wall path. It is located near the very best part of the Wall ; and if you have only 1 or 2 days to visit the Wall this is the place to stay! Pauline and John are wonderful hosts and their garden and home are delightful! Because of its relatively remote location we had arranged to have dinner on the night of our arrival as well as the breakfast the next morning. Both meals were delicious and filling! My wife thought it was the best B&B we stayed in on our trip!

Henshaw Barn replied: Having many fond memories of former guests from Canada, we are always thrilled when the opportunity arises to greet more Canadians.....and it so happened that you and your wife proved to be just as likeable as our previous guests - and just as warm, friendly, and congenial - it was such a pleasure to share our home with you. And as you pointed out we are a good base for visitors, being very close to some of the most spectacular and scenic aspects of Hadrian's Wall, and also within easy walking distance of Vindolanda. Thankyou for all your generous recommendations, your kind and appreciative words, and your very lovely review. We hope the rest of your trip was equally enjoyable, and you were able to return home with lots of happy memories of your trip. Our thanks and very best wishes to you both, Pauline and John.

As good as ever!

Ann H, Snaith, United Kingdom
I think this has been our sixth visit to Henshaw Barn, which in itself, must be a good recommendation! Every single time we have been to HB we have been greeted with the same, very warm welcome. Pauline and John are amazing hosts and have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and memorable for all the best reasons - beautiful bed linen, fresh milk for your refreshment tray, ground coffee, chilled water, hairdryer, bath robes, luxurious toiletries - to name just a few, but all wonderful!! The two rooms are beautifully decorated and furnished to a high standard. We have stayed in both rooms and although quite different, each as good as the other. We always order evening meal - well, once you have sampled John's food you won't want to look anywhere else! He is a professionally trained chef and has worked in many top class restaurants. In fact, for us, John's delicious food, using home grown or locally sourced food, is the highlight of our stay. Breakfast too, is simply amazing, with every taste catered for. So -- if you are looking for comfortable accommodation in this stunning part of the country, exceptionally good food and a warm welcome, this is the place for you. Thank you Pauline and John.

Henshaw Barn replied: Once again you have excelled - thank you so much for your very lovely and very detailed review - (which cheers us immensely!) and which provides (we hope) useful information for other travellers - who may be looking for good beds, good company, great food, and great ambience. THANKYOU BOTH! We SO value and appreciate your support, and we hope that we may be lucky enough to see you again - and before too long! Our very best and warmest wishes, Pauline and John. :) :)
