Overview

This attractive and spacious 6 bedroom Victorian property is situated in the market town of Alnwick in Northumberland.

This delightful character guesthouse, tastefully furnished throughout, sits in the heart of the Alnwick Conservation area and is only a two minute walk from the town centre and local amenities, including a wide range of good restaurants. Both Alnwick Castle, the second largest inhabited castle in England and known as the Windsor of the North, and Alnwick Garden are readily reached on foot within a further short stroll.

Greycroft is located in a private road, allowing guest parking adjacent to the house. It has an attractive walled garden that has been described as 'an oasis in the centre of town'. Our rooms include a large single, four doubles and a twin. In addition, we have a comfortable guest lounge with a variety of books and games and a bright contemporary garden room where breakfast is served from 8.00-9.00am (8.00-9.30am at weekends)

All bedrooms have en suite shower rooms. They are equipped with colour TV with Freeview and DVD, radio/alarm, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. No two rooms are the same size and this is reflected in the differential tariffs.
Single Room: This delightfully furnished, spacious single room has the benefit of a double bed, accessible from both sides. There are two steps down to the large en suite shower room. Very stylish.
Blue Room: A tastefully furnished double room with double bed and two easy chairs.
Red Room: A large double room looking out onto the garden. It has a kingsize bed, a matching bedroom suite in American oak and two leather tub chairs.
Green Room: A very large double room with bay window overlooking the garden. The room has a kingsize bed and furnishings in American oak, with a comfortable two seater sofa.
Twin Room: The twin room is accessed from the corridor down three steps. It is furnished with white-washed cane furniture.
Yellow Room: This room is also accessed from the corridor down three steps. It is a spacious room with a king size bed and matching oak furniture, large coffee table, 3 seater sofa and large TV.
Wi-fi available.

Breakfast is served in the light and airy Garden Room which has doors leading onto the patio. The garden itself is south facing with ample seating where guests can enjoy the early morning or late afternoon sun as they plan their activities.

Alnwick is historically known as the capital of Northumberland as it lies centrally in the county. It is an ideal base for exploring the beautiful Northumberland coast, including the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne, and countryside from the Borders down through Kielder to Hadrians Wall. Northumberland is the least populated county in the country but is blessed with the most castles, including Alnwick, Bamburgh, Warkworth, Dunstanburgh and Lindisfarne (Holy Island). It was to Holy Island that St Aidan introduced Christianity when he founded the first monastery in 653 AD.

Enjoy the tranquility and the history of this beautiful area.

Perfect B&B

Jennifer C,
We stayed 2 nights at Greycroft. Audrey warmly welcomed us to her beautiful house & walled garden in Alnwick. Bedrooms & bathrooms are spacious, spotlessly clean & well stocked with anything guests may need. Comfortable beds. Breakfast was delicious with lots of choice of local, fresh ingredients. I will definitely recommend Greycroft to family & friends.

Amazing weekend

Honeymooners67, Cleethorpes
Just returned from 3 nights at this wonderful B&B. Just a short walk from the castle and gardens and the town centre. Audrey made us very welcome from the moment we walked in and nothing was too much trouble. Tom serves up a mean breakfast with plenty of choice, which set us up for the day. Our group booked the green and yellow rooms which were both excellent. We will definitely be returning to the area as there is so much more we need to see and can't wait to book again.

Greycroft ticks all the boxes

Warm hospitality, quiet central location, spotlessly clean, great breakfast and a comfortable bed: what more could you want in a B&B? I hope we find the opportunity to return, as there's so much to see in this beautiful part of the country.

Very enjoyable stay

Following an excellent time at Greycroft last July we returned for five nights in early June. This time we were staying in the Green room, which is a very pleasant room with a large bed, a decent-sized shower room, and a comfortable seating area. It has a large bay window overlooking the garden. As before, Audrey was on hand to welcome us and show us to our room. The morning breakfasts were as enjoyable as we remembered and each day we came down looking forward to an excellent meal to set us up for the day ahead. The Eggs Benedict are to be especially recommended! Audrey was able to provide up to date information and tips on places to visit, including discount vouchers for certain places and could be relied upon for good dining suggestions too. We would strongly recommend this B&B to anyone wanting to stay in Alnwick and look forward to returning at some point next year.

Home from home

TripperUppers, Yorkshire
We stayed recently at Greycroft during a short visit to Alnwick and were very pleased with our choice of accommodation. The delightful Audrey, with her dry sense of humour, made a wonderful hostess; and her breakfasts were wonderful too including Tom's sausages! The lady providing the breakfast service was extremely pleasant and very efficient. The house is really lovely with everything the guest could want; a big breakfast room overlooking the garden, a very welcoming guest lounge and a mass of local interest books - I think this is the first time that we've actually used a guest lounge. The way the house has been decorated and accessorised gives it a very homely feel, although it's quite an impressive building in its own right. The location is excellent and just a short walk down to the Bondgate and the town centre, near to several nice pubs and restaurants so you can leave the car parked up outside, and a 5 minute walk to the huge Barter Books and a Lidl in the other direction. If/when we return to Alnwick for a stay, we shall hope to revisit Greycroft again.
