Very good welcome, food, place. Average B&B room.

Mark B, Otley, England, United Kingdom
3 night stay at the end of July. We had a good welcome from very friendly host. There were some nice extra touches and breakfasts were excellent, whether cooked or "continental" style. No chance of going hungry! We stayed in the twin room which was very clean, well supplied with tea & coffee and moderately spacious. The en-suite could generously be described as compact, though the shower was adequately roomy. Overall I could not rate the room above B&B average. Also we did have some problems with the shower working, which might have been when other guests were showering. This was discussed but the reason not pinned down. We were also warned that the wi-fi was a bit dodgy (which had been taken up with BT) and so it proved: connectivity was very patchy. The location is properly rural with no services within the immediate area but Belford, 5 minutes drive, offers shops, food and pubs. The house has a very nice garden, though we did not find time to make use of it. The room was described as "garden view" which was true but understated its excellent outlook with an open view across to Lindisfarne.

Comfortable stay with great breakfasts

We had five nights in the twin room for our first trip to beautiful Northumberland. As an earlier reviewer said, it's not a massive room and the shower room is small, but the terrific views in two directions, and the generous breakfasts more than compensated. The room was spotlessly clean and contained everything we could need. The Jacksons were welcoming and friendly hosts, and Brenda has lots of tips for places to visit and to eat.

Home from home in the beautiful Northumbrian countryside

Ros G,
My husband and I spent two nights at the farm during the two day summer of 2016! Lovely quiet location with all the amenities and within easy driving distance of all coastal attractions. The Jacksons were lovely warm welcoming hosts who provided us with as much information as we needed to make our trip memorable and their breakfasts were to die for. I can specifically recommend the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs! Just wish we could have stayed longer. We will definitely be back....

Wonderful views and hospitality!

We spent 3 nights at Dechant Farm last week and enjoyed very much our stay! The location is beautiful and so peaceful, in the middle of wonderful Northumbrian countryside. The house is very well kept and clean with a lovely garden to enjoy in sunny days. Our room (the twin) was not very big and the ensuite was really tiny, but perfectly comfortable and bright, provided with everything we needed! And what to say about the views!!! Just amazing! Towards the relaxing greens and yellows of open countryside, with the blue of the sea and the unmistakable outline of Lindisfarne castle in the distance! Brenda and her husband were wonderful hosts, very nice and helpful and breakfasts were just excellent. A place I would recommend!

Welcoming home- from- home

H L, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
Detchant Farm is a working farm on an elevated position overlooking the fabulous Northumberland coastline, with views over the causeway to Lindisfarne (Holy Island). It is conveniently located for all the towns and villages nearby, including the historic towns of Alnwick, Bamburgh and Berwick upon Tweed, the coastal towns of Seahouses and Beadnell and close to the Cheviot hills beyond Wooler. The farmhouse has a real home from home atmosphere. Brenda warmly welcomed us, showing us to our double room which had tea and coffee making facilities, TV, an easy chair and although it did not have en-suite facilities with this room, we had sole use of the spacious toilet and shower room adjoining our bedroom. There was also a communal fridge on the landing, with chilled water, jugs of fresh milk and a bottle of sherry available for all the guests to help themselves. The house is spacious and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was a comprehensive selection of cooked food, including eggs cooked to order, if desired. The freshly made fruit salad was absolutely delicious, along with yogurts, cereals and fruit juice, croissants and toast. We chose this B and B because they were happy to accommodate our boat on a trailer- just like everything else, this was taken in their stride without fuss. In fact, because of the timing of the harvest, the boat overnighted in the barn.
