Great place to stay!

Sue J, Lancaster
This is a really excellent farmhouse b&b, we stayed for 2 nights in Oak room on the ground floor which is fully modified for disabled access. The room is beautifully appointed with a very comfortable bed, large wet room style bathroom, sofa, tv and wifi, with the most fabulous views of the farm and surrounding countryside. particularly the two lovely Highland cows and calf. We especially liked the tea and coffee making facilities provided, with cafetiere and proper coffee, and lovely china cups and saucers. We were greeted on arrival by Michael and Sandie and shown to the lounge upstairs with a cup of tea and some of Sandie's delicious homemade shortbread, by far the best I have ever tasted, I should have asked for the recipe! There is lots of information about local places to see and Sandie had kindly offered to book us a table at the local pub, the Red Lion, where we had a very good meal on the Saturday evening. Sandie's breakfasts are fantastic and cooked to order, with scrumptious fresh fruit and yogurt and lots of choices of cereals. Everything is beautifully clean and definitely 4* quality. Michael and Sandie are wonderful hosts and we would thoroughly recommend a stay there, we will definitely be back when we are in the area.

English Countryside

We did not want to leave this farm. A stones throw away from Hadrian's Wall, minutes away from the best pub in Engaland, situated just above the south Thyne, this is a gem! If you like to walk or bike this is paradise. Sandy knows what accommodation means and is a thoughtful, attentive hostess. We just love Iona and the other heelan' coos! The evening was peaceful and in the morning we awoke to hearing the lambs call to their mothers. Breakfast was delicious and we had a fun, educational time talking to Sandy about their working cattle and sheep farm. The room and bathroom was very clean and nicely accommodated for a family of 4. We wished we could have stayed for longer at Carr Edge!

Tranquil bliss and a brilliant hostess/owner

We loved this B&B and Sandie was an absolute star/gem of a hostess. Tea and homemade fruitcake on arrival was just the ticket! The setting is really beautiful in the green and rolling pastureland of Northumbria close to Hadrian's Wall. It was lovely to stay on a working English farm. We stayed two nights in the downstairs double room which is comfortable and spacious, and the bathroom was a great size too. We had a door to a small outside area with a little table and two chairs - great for sitting and taking in the views, watching the sheep, and just generally relaxing. The breakfasts were really tasty and more than ampl. I especially appreciated the fresh fruit in addition to the excellent English breakfast. As well as being such a gem of a hostess, Sandie has a wealth of knowledge and happily answered all of my partners questions about the farm workings. We'd wholeheartedly recommend this as a place to stay - Hadrian's Wall nearby, as well as Hexham and Corbridge (latter is a lovely little place, full of tearooms and lovely little shops).

Ask About the Witch's Tree!

Our party was three retired couples traveling together so we booked all three of Sandy's rooms. We spent two nights while visiting Hadrian's Wall sights. Carr Edge is a working sheep farm and is delightfully situated in rolling hills. My wife and I stayed in the Oak Room on the ground floor. It was spacious and had a comfortable bed that we would call queen size in the US. The view was out over the sheep pastures and very beautiful. Very clean. The bathroom was a fairly large wet room. It was modern and was set up as a handicap bath. Being a wet room, the shower had only a shower curtain around it with no floor sill. If you weren't very careful, the whole floor would be soaking after a shower (make sure to ask for a few extra towels!). Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Sandy was very accommodating in every way. She made us reservations at the Red Lion (very enjoyable - great sticky toffee pudding!). Carr Edge has a "drying room" with an automatic washer which can be used for a small fee to cover electricity. We were able to do some laundry and dry things on hangers around the walls. Very convenient. Be sure to ask Sandy about the "Witch's Tree" in the area and "Old Meg's House" that is actually on the farm! All in all, we had an enjoyable, informative and educational stay. We would definitely stay here again.
