Tranquil bliss and a brilliant hostess/owner

carolmoonlight, Sandy, United Kingdom
We loved this B&B and Sandie was an absolute star/gem of a hostess. Tea and homemade fruitcake on arrival was just the ticket! The setting is really beautiful in the green and rolling pastureland of Northumbria close to Hadrian's Wall. It was lovely to stay on a working English farm. We stayed two nights in the downstairs double room which is comfortable and spacious, and the bathroom was a great size too. We had a door to a small outside area with a little table and two chairs - great for sitting and taking in the views, watching the sheep, and just generally relaxing. The breakfasts were really tasty and more than ampl. I especially appreciated the fresh fruit in addition to the excellent English breakfast. As well as being such a gem of a hostess, Sandie has a wealth of knowledge and happily answered all of my partners questions about the farm workings. We'd wholeheartedly recommend this as a place to stay - Hadrian's Wall nearby, as well as Hexham and Corbridge (latter is a lovely little place, full of tearooms and lovely little shops).

Ask About the Witch's Tree!

LadderTruck7, Austin, Texas
Our party was three retired couples traveling together so we booked all three of Sandy's rooms. We spent two nights while visiting Hadrian's Wall sights. Carr Edge is a working sheep farm and is delightfully situated in rolling hills. My wife and I stayed in the Oak Room on the ground floor. It was spacious and had a comfortable bed that we would call queen size in the US. The view was out over the sheep pastures and very beautiful. Very clean. The bathroom was a fairly large wet room. It was modern and was set up as a handicap bath. Being a wet room, the shower had only a shower curtain around it with no floor sill. If you weren't very careful, the whole floor would be soaking after a shower (make sure to ask for a few extra towels!). Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Sandy was very accommodating in every way. She made us reservations at the Red Lion (very enjoyable - great sticky toffee pudding!). Carr Edge has a "drying room" with an automatic washer which can be used for a small fee to cover electricity. We were able to do some laundry and dry things on hangers around the walls. Very convenient. Be sure to ask Sandy about the "Witch's Tree" in the area and "Old Meg's House" that is actually on the farm! All in all, we had an enjoyable, informative and educational stay. We would definitely stay here again.

Stop over whilst doing Hadrians Cycleway

Catherine W, Carlisle, United Kingdom
Just back from a fantastic weekend of cycling Hadrians Cycleway- as a family of 4 adults and 2 children we needed overnight accommodation. Carefully selected by my brother in law- we opted for Carr Edge- we certainly weren't disappointed. Greeted by the owner Sandie- helping us lock our bikes away securely and then giving us a detailed tour of the B&B and our rooms- 1x family room with double and 2 twins and a separate twin room- as well as a communal lounge with tv and large comfy sofas. Wifi was well received by my nephews! Sandie allowed us to settle in and then brought up tea, coffee (cafetière) and homemade flapjack. Rooms and bathrooms were very clean and warm as we'd been soaked during the day. After a lovely sleep-we were provided with a fantastic cooked breakfast with lots of additional extras- fresh fruit platter, toast. Will definitely recommend.

Tranquil Perfection

MilouSnow, Washington
This has to be my favorite B&B ever. The setting is absolutely beautiful in the green and rolling pastureland of Northumbria close to Hadrian's Wall. It was a joy to stay on a working English farm. We stayed two nights in the twin standard suite basically because it was the only room available. We found the room to be very comfortable for two normal-sized adults. And the bathroom was very spacious with a high ceiling and skylight that brought in ample natural light. The window in the bedroom offered a lovely view of the pasture and brought in the soft bleating of sheep to lull us to sleep at night. Oh, and the wifi was good too! The breakfasts were ample and tasty. I especially appreciated the fresh fruit in addition to the excellent English breakfast. Sandie is the perfect hostess. She is a wealth of knowledge and happily answered all of my partners questions about the farm workings. The Red Lion Pub at the bottom of the lane offers surprisingly good meals for a village pub. We ate there both nights of your stay. I would highly recommend Carr Edge Farm.
