Malcolm in the Middle

2020hall, Vienna, Austria
We finished our first days walk on the wall and called the Bush Nook Inn. Malcolm was picking us up by the time I closed my cell phone. My wet boots and clothes got dropped at the entry Nook and we headed upstairs to a single room and a bonus single room with Three beds. But my buddy and I couldn't stay too long as Malcolm correctly had made dinner reservations at half past and after a beverage or two (we like the honor bar) we headed to the local pub/ burgers and chips never tasted so good! We dined with Australian sisters also guests at Bush Nook and only banned politics as the forbidden topic. Everything else was fair game including how stupid Aussie rules football looks to Yanks. The sisters insisted we order the full Malcolm breakfast for the am which we did and which he did it up with black pudding and sausages. Yes it hit the spot and after a comfortable night's rest we were ready for day two. I vote Bush Nook a great find and Malcolm a genius at anticipation for knowing not only what we needed but when we needed it! So our hats off to the man in the middle who picked us up, made our pub reservation for dinner and retrieved us and made a fantastic breakfast. If only he could do reflexology. A great spot, a great host and if you like interesting guests from all over the world give the Nook a try! We did and it was a winner!

The best host ever!

WhitewaterWilliam, Washington DC, District of Columbia
This was my second time staying at the Bush Nook. The first was two years ago in 2015. Even though I had no interest in walking Hadrian's Wall, I made a special trip to re-experience the hospitality here. The owner, Malcolm, is the hardest-working, friendliest, most welcoming host I have ever met. He's used to catering to hungry wall-walkers, and his breakfasts are big and really good. He is totally committed to making every visitor's stay the best it can be. The structure sits in the middle of sheep pasture, and that's all you can see for miles, so it's very restful if you decide to stay for more than one night. While the Bush Nook is about a mile walk from the Wall, Malcolm will drive to pick up guests anywhere in the local area. The original structure is old, and so there are a few creaky floors, but all the rooms have been newly-refurbished and are very clean and well-appointed.

FAMILY BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

Martin E, Sunderland, England, United Kingdom
My father-in-law hired the place for a few days during a weekend in late July 2017. I was able to get there for the final two nights. It's a lovely farm house with big kitchen area, big dining room and separate bar area and lounge. There is also a conservatory which is nice to relax in and pleasant gardens with a gazebo for outdoor eating and a BBQ. There is a hot tub which is no doubt popular with walkers doing the Hadrian's Wall route. Prices in the bar are about £4 for a bottle of beer etc. The village is less than a mile away with a pub and cafes. But this is a rural area. The family seemed to have a nice time and the kids enjoyed the big house and the numerous bedrooms to play in. We even had a game of cricket in the garden. The owners seem very friendly and cooked some of the evening meals for the family, but I wasn't there at that point. Because we'd hired the whole place we did our own breakfasts etc. It's a nice place and I would certainly recommend it.

Great service, lovely place

Elliot G, Durham, North Carolina
The owner, Malcolm, is wonderful. He picked us up in Walltown when we were too tired to make it to Gilsland while hiking Hadrian's Wall. The hot tub in the backyard was ready to go, and the honor-self-serve "pub" hit the spot. Food was delish. Highly recommended.

Fab and friendly place

SJBaked, Hertford
Wow! Can't praise this place enough. Only one night booked and wished we had time to stay longer. Spotlessly clean, cosy and comfortable. Malcolm is most accommodating and friendly. Breakfast was the best of our holiday Top notch!!!!
