Overview

Alnwick Lodge enjoys a picturesque setting close to the A1 trunk road. The Lodge and surrounding grounds has been home to Peter Smith since 1976, joined by Evelyn in 1994. During this period West Cawledge Park has been tastefully transformed from a dilapidated Northumbrian Farmstead to provide Alnwick Lodge.

Fifteen well equipped guest bedrooms all with en-suite facilities, individually decorated and furnished to the highest standard ranging from singles, doubles, twins, family, to a magestic Four Poster bedroom.

The antiques in the bedrooms are all for sale. Locally sourced produce including fresh fruits from the orchard feature in the splendid breakfast, packed lunches and evening meals are available if ordered in advance. Children and dogs are welcome.

The Lodge offers superb accommodation for private guests, corporate events, film crews and wedding parties, a unique location to host house parties tailored to your own requirements. Four public rooms set around the floral courtyard.

Lonely Planet recommended.

Antique Galleries, log fires, glamping and camping with ample parking.

Charming visit to quickly Alnwick B&B

Heather M,
I'd booked into the Alnwick Lodge for myself and two friends visiting from London. I love Northumbria, particularly its coastline, and was anxious for my friends to fall in love with it, too. I normally stay in Seahouses, but my favoured B&B was booked. Well situated just outside Alnwick, the lodge is just off the A1 on the way to Morpeth, but be warned it's a tight turn off a very busy road, look out for the signs to West Cawledge Park. The rooms are all overlooking a lovely courtyard, and Evelyn, the owner, was very knowledgable and welcoming. We were situated in two adjoining rooms, the double West Granary suite and the bijou Mouse House, or Hobbiton as I dubbed it. My friends had a slipper bath, mine was truly tiny but lovely and the bed was really comfy as well, with a Velux window. My friends loved their accommodation - it was a spacious room big enough for all three of us to socialise in. Breakfasts are a sociable affair around a big table where you can chat to other guests. There's a selection of fruit, cereal and a wonderful full English (or variation). We opted for plenty of the fabulous cafetière coffee as well. There is also an antiques gallery- in fact most things in this B&B can be bought. If you like slick, modern surroundings, this is not the place for you. But it you want cosy Northumbrian hospitality in charming, old fashioned rooms, you will love it. We certainly did.

Birthday trip

Sara Jane D,
Such a quirky lovely bnb tooked away of the A1, from start to finish we were made to feel so welcome by staff, owners and pets! We spent 2 nights in the red bathroom (so called as it has a red bath) before moving over to the glamping pavilion, both facilities were beyond that of a bnb and a glamping hut. I am going to miss the fresh baked bread in the morning with the homemade plum jam from the fruit trees on site, everything on my partners cooked breakfast was cooked to perfection every morning. We will miss buttons the cat who adopted us during our stay and spent the night in the pavilion cuddled up by to log burner. Sara and james P.s buttons snores worse than James

Lovely spot to camp

Rebecca M,
Came here camping over the bank holiday weekend. Fantastic location not far from Alnwick and the coast. Clean loos and shower. Lovely, friendly owners. Lovely friendly chickens! They do give you a wake up call!! Would definitely recommend it.

Really interesting place, much preferred to the normal "premier"hotels.

Paul C, Tutbury, United Kingdom
Had a chance to meet the owner, a really nice man who has been progressively restoring this wonderful building over many years. He has used imagination and fun in preparing 15 rooms for B&B. They are quirky but nice. Breakfast was also good and all at a modest cost. Keep up the good work!

A quirky B&B on the A1

Nvrsheffield,
An extraordinary place, antiques everywhere, chickens and cats, it looks like every room is very different. We were in the "Silver Bath" room, which as the name suggests had a bath in the room. On arrival we were welcomed with a pot of tea, which was just the trick. The only complaint we had was the noise of the water tank which was very close to the room - it was a bit like trying to sleep on a plane with the noise. OK for one night. Breakfast was excellent and all the staff superb.
